Activities in Mallaig

There is a range of interesting and enjoyable activities in Mallaig all within easy reach from Bank House.
Mallaig Swimming PoolAll local amenities such as the post office, bank, pharmacy, medical practice and supermarkets are within walking distance of the house.

  • There are a number of quaint and original shops as well in the centre of the village just a stone’s throw from Bank House, including the Mallaig Art Gallery which offers a wide selection of Original and limited edition prints by Scottish Artists.
  • Visit the swimming pool 500 yards up the hill, which offers additional sauna and Jacuzzi facilities, in addition to a small gymnasium
  • Mallaig Heritage CentreIf you are interested in the history of the village- visit the Mallaig Heritage Centre which is situated 100 yards away in the railway station. It tells the story the local population and how they struggled to make living from the land and the sea. It is a real treasure trove of stories, films collections and displays.

Watch out for the Jacobite Steam Train which operates during the summer to and from Fort William. Its terminus is situated in Mallaig train station 100 yards from the house. This train famously featured in the Harry Potter films and is a major attraction within the village.

Enjoy the local walks including the Circular Walk which starts just around the bay at Springbank Guest House. This walk passes through a lovely glen with bubbling streams and waterfalls. Follow the path upwards and be rewarded with beautiful views over Mallaigvaig and the Knoydart peninsula.

All the local cafes, bars and restaurants are within walking distance. The restaurants provide fantastic home cooking along with sea food and excellent fish and chips. Most weekends there is live music in the local bars. You will be hard pushed to choose a favourite!

Visit John and Eveyln in the Tourist Information Centre for more friendly advice on local activities. It’s just across the road and you can enjoy a coffee while you are there.
